Rubbish

Rubbish is one of the biggest problems in the world. And isn't it sad how big it is?

Luckily, people are starting to do something about it. Trying to use less or no glad-wrap, putting your rubbish in the bin and recycling things are all a good start. But what about the rubbish that's already out there?  Are we just going to leave it? I don't know about you, but I did something about it.

Me, Gabrielle, Gypsy and Kalissa picked up rubbish at lunch around the whole school for THREE DAYS! We found so many pieces of glad wrap, and chip packets, and muesli bar wrappers in the bush near the stream, near there we also found an orange Mitre 10 shopping bag, which was a bit strange and brought on many questions.

A few days after we had finished our quest for rubbish, we got invited to share at our Whakangahau (assembly).  Even the little kids got our message and looked in their lunchbox's to see all the rubbish!

Comment on how you could improve your rubbish problem.

  1. We think that what you and your friends Gabrielle, Gypsy and Kalessa have done is VERY powerful and important for the whole school. What you have all done is show leadership and thought and brought to the whole school the importance of thinking about the nature of waste eg small animals become ensnared ,choked and even poisoned by rubbish such as gladwrap(there are chemicals in gladwrap that are not good AND gladwrap and other plastics do not disappear=decompose=breakdown very well).yOU HAVE ALL VERY CAREFULLY THOUGHT ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THE SOLUTION AND SHOULD BE CONGRATULATED ON YOUR GREAT EFFORTS HAVING a WHAKANGAHAU is a really great way of sharing your findings and making others aware so very well done. We shall tell many of our scientific chums( in new zealand and other parts of the world) what you have all done.

  2. What you are doing is really inspiring. You seem to really care about the environment. With now, the population of the world being so high the products made help us yet hurt the environment and all the things that are used to make these products come from the Earth. We only have one Earth and we should take care of it.
    Good job on this post,

  3. Yucky old rubbish. It's pretty cool that you used your lunchtime to pick it up at school!
