NZ Quakes

Gabrielle and I have been finding out about past earthquakes that are above six on Richter Scale. Here is some information that we found on THE BIGGEST EARTHQUAKE EVER RECORDED IN NZ: 23 January 1855 in Wairarapa This was the BIGGEST earthquake ever recorded in NZ, at a magnitude of 8.3 this earthquake was at 9.00pm, and only killed 5-9 people. It was 33 km deep.

Jade & Spring The Jewel Scepter

I’m writing a story about twins named Jade and Spring. They live in Kaikoura and then the earthquake hits. The get moved to a fairytale school in Australia. Here is a little bit of the story: We all woke up and everything was normalish. Except half of Kaikoura was damaged or completely munted. All the roads to Kaikoura a blocked, and lots of schools are closed. Spring’s happy, she never gets good grades anyway. A month passes and mum and dad pull us into their room. They say, “You know how the living room ceiling is damaged,” they said. “We don’t have any money to fix it, and we have to fix it, so we are going to have to send you two to a boarding school in Australia” I sighed, Spring swore, and we both headed of to our rooms to start packing. This chapter is written from Jade’s point of view. Spring and Jade take turns at narrating the chapters. The full story is coming soon! ☺

Reading...

Image
I am reading a book called The Templeton Twins Have An Idea. It's by Ellis Weiner. I like this book because the narrator communicates with the reader. Also the narrator is funny. A little bit of the story is this: The Templeton twins BLAH BLAH, VERY SAD, ETCETERA. I recommend this book to both genders, age 8-88,888,888,888,888,888,888,888,888,888… Great b ook!

Carnival Art- Finished

I have finally finished my carnival art! It took a long time and a few hammered thumbs, but I’m finished the nailing and threading. Look at the result! My favourite part about my art is the sequins on the curve of the A. The easiest part about the making was the threading for sure.   What do you think? Comment below.

Symmography Diamond Pattern

Is it curved? Look again. This diamond is made up of four of these: Sooooo, is it curved, or is it straight? Comment your opinion below :-)

Fancy Dress Dance

This is room 9’s dance that we will be performing at the fancy dress. It’s the full dance, so if you want a surprise on the night, DO NOT WATCH!!! The dance looks like it has been choreographed by a professional, but actually most of it was done by the students. In a couple of places everyone is doing a different thing, we got to make that up by ourselves. The song, however, was chosen by a professional dancer, Mrs Ford. That Power has a strong beat, and has a nice chorus as well.

A Snippet Of The Story 'Hunteress'

I'm writing a story called 'Hunteress' and have found a bit that I really like, so I have selected it as a teaser for 'Hunteress'. Who do you think are the main  characters ? This is it: “There are no footprints round here! August will be impossible to track down,” said Lexi. “Lexi, you doof,” said Libby, “Fairies don’t leave footprints, they fly, not walk.” “Oh.” Just when they were about to give up, an arrow came flying towards Emily, she dodged it easily, it was released from its bow over three miles away. Only one person in the land had that gooder aim. August. The full story is coming soon!

Maori Blessing

Mrs Cribb showed us some blessings today. This is the one I liked best:  Blessing  It's a good blessing for anyone and everyone, because it doesn't mention any gods, so any religion can use it.

The Grimm Brothers

The Grimm Brothers wrote grim fairy tales. Actually, no, they didn't. They collected tales from around Europe and then published them in books, across seven volumes. Work in progress below. Finished with the colour below.

AWE Swimming

Last week Room 9 went to AWE swimming at the Aquatic Centre. Believe it or not, we went swimming!  At AWE swimming you learn how to do freestyle, backstroke, tows (pulling another person across the water without hurting their body), safety jump (aka safety step),how to put on a life jacket properly , treading water, floating on your back (and moving while floating on your back), and other things, including how to have fun while staying safe. You don't need to take goggles, but if you want to you can. AWE gives you rash tops to wear over top of you togs, for easy visibility, but they don't supply togs. And at the end, you get a certificate either gold, silver or bronze. AWE is now highly recommended by Room 9.

Lessons Of The Maple Tree

Imovie created by  Alison,Gypsy and Gabrielle. Please read the below before watching.  Lessons Of The Maple Tree By Alison, Gypsy & Gabrielle in 2016. R: Respect the environment I: Be clear about how much support you need S: The three nests, Students, Staff and Community E: Anyone can climb higher in their learning Why We Chose Pointillism : Because pointillism makes you think that colours are blended but they aren't! Also pointillism (in our opinions) looks effective from a long distance. Why We Put In A Jungle Gym: Because anyone can climb it & reach their goals.

Spicy To The Wing Teaser

I am currently writing a story in the style of a diary. It uses show-not-tells. ( Maybe not in this part though) Can you guess what species I am writing about? Hint: sǝɯɐu ǝɥʇ ʇɐ ʞool Answer in the comments! Today I woke up to a muffled scream. Immediately my eyes snapped open. I saw a weird human creature with a moving bag walk away.    “HELP ME!” I heard Gullfrazie whispering getting further and further away. Away and towards a ominously big building that was looming out of the shadows. Then I realised. The bag wasn’t moving anymore. Was he dead? Or was he asleep? Why would they take a dead animal ? Before I could think I dived straight into the human-held bag… For the full story read Spicy To The Wing... Coming Soon!

My Writing so far...

This is my writing so far. It has NOT been edited or completed yet. Climbing W a ll Okay. Georgie is at the top. Climbing wall ,here I come!  I like climbing walls because I know which rocks I can reach without my feet falling of.   I climb about one rock per one to four seconds. So does Georgie, my climbing partner. Georgie went up the wall before me.     Up and up and up,up,up,up,up! Now we’re half way!
