Passion Project

Hi person reading this. Our class has been doing a PASSION PROJECT, a project on your passion. That's all I'm going to say right now though. So,my "passion project" has been to write a song. I finally finished today! I was supposed to finish last term but hey, it's harder than it sounds. You give it a go. It's not easy, is it? So don't judge my song, it's the best I could come up with. So below is the audio file for my song, slightly flat but it's not perfect because I needed to get it done sooner rather than later. Oh, and Happy Halloween!

HCF... 😃

HCF, or highest common factor, was my goal a couple of weeks ago. I took, in my opinion, a bit long to learn it, but it's easy if you know what a factor is, which I do, but I was a long time ago... Excuses excuses, anyway, I would like to show you how to do it. 😀 Look below for instructions... First step: Find two or more numbers you want to find a common factor of. I'm going to use 24 & 36. Take those numbers and find all the factors of those numbers. 24: 1,2,3,4,6,8,12 & 24. Those are all the factors of 24. Now let's try 36. 36: 1,2,3,4,6,12 & 36. What are the factors that are the same (btw these are also called common factors)? For 24 and 36 they are: 1,2,3,4,6 & 12. 12 is the highest out of the previous numbers, so the highest common factor of 24 & 36 is... 12. This goal was a goal that challenged me to know my times tables and division facts better, it also lead me to my current goal, divisibility rules. The two goals are related in man...

Coding Continued...

You know how I was describing the coding challenge in the previous post? Look down ⬇️ if you haven't... Well, turns out my groups app made the finals for New Zealand! 🇳🇿 There is an article on stuff (link  HERE 😁  )Oh by the way I'm not in the photo so don't bother looking 🤣. Stuff says: Less Stress , helping kids aged 7-12 resolve stress and anxiety problems through games, drawing pages, inspirational quotes and a stopwatch for exercise.  That's not the whole thing but that's how it describes our app, which is accurate. If we win the finals we go to San Francisco and go to the worlds, which is very complicated so I won't go on with it but here's the world info  Here

Coding

Hi!☺ I know it's been a while since I last posted anything, so I decided to post about what I've been busy with for the last few AGES. Everyone knows about coding, but how many everyone's actually know HOW to code? Not as many as you might think, and how many of them are girls? Annoying Fact ↓ Only one in every seven engineers are girls.  For some more info on the tech challenge,  Click HERE (And not HERE)

Alto Clef Writing!

Image
Hi 😃 I have been busy busy busy writing, and it's finally  done! The writing is informative, and is about Alto Clef. (This weird thing over here →) Anyway, I'm not going to explain it here, click on the link for the writing! LINK (Please click, because I said so.)

My Family

I'm Alison and I'm myself, obviously. My sister is Rebecca, and she is annoying and cute. (Mostly annoying.) Rebecca is a year 4 at Frankley School, and she is in Tuhono. My dad is Robert and he is a music teacher for lots of schools. Dad plays lots of bass and double bass, he can play ukelele and guitar to! He can read music and is really talented. My mum is Sheryl and lives in Dunedin. Mum is and English teacher at Taieri Collage in Mosgiel. She is really annoying when she corrects me in my bad grammar. (I don't mind much!) Mum is getting married in the holidays, and me and Rebecca get to go down to see! (YAY!) I have a half-brother named Shay from Mum's side of the family. He's turning TWENTY this year! (I really can't believe it!) Shay works at McDonald's in New Plymouth.I also have a half-sister named Abigail from Dad's side of the family. Abby lives in Rangiora and is fifteen this year. Abby is really athletic and does a lot of soccer and running.

Rubbish

Image
Rubbish is one of the biggest problems in the world. And isn't it sad how big it is?  Luckily, people are starting to do something about it. Trying to use less or no glad-wrap, putting your rubbish in the bin and recycling things are all a good start. But what about the rubbish that's already out there?  Are we just going to leave it? I don't know about you, but I did something about it.  Me, Gabrielle, Gypsy and Kalissa picked up rubbish at lunch around the whole school for THREE DAYS! We found so many pieces of glad wrap, and chip packets, and muesli bar wrappers in the bush near the stream, near there we also found an orange Mitre 10 shopping bag, which was a bit strange and brought on many questions. A few days after we had finished our quest for rubbish, we got invited to share at our Whakangahau (assembly).  Even the little kids got our message and looked in their lunchbox's  to see all the rubbish! How to leave a comment.

I have a few tips on commenting, please read! Well, first you have to find a post to comment on. Once you have found a good post, scroll down until you see a comment button in the middle just below the post. Click on it, and write you quality comment in the white box. A quality comment says 'Great work on...' or ' Good post, work on your...' not ' Good work. I love your post.' You have to explain WHY you like it. Once you have done that, go and click on the box that says 'Comment as...' It should say you are anonymous. Change that to 'Name/URL'. Put your name in the box that says name, and leave the URL box empty.  Double check your comment for spelling. POST! Please tell me if this was helpful. Thanks ☺ .   (If this doesn't work please tell me.)

Tu Kaha Badge

I sat down in front of the whole school, my stomach filled with butterflies. Soon I would get my Tu Kaha badge. But first my video had to be shown. The video about how I want to be remembered. I hate videoing myself. I hate videos of me been shown in front of anyone, and now three hundred people are going to watch it.  The butterflies turned to lead as my video was shown. It was over soon enough, and then it was someone else's turn to be embarrassed.  The videos were over, and we shook hands with him our 2017 teachers and received our badges. I held mine in my hand, suddenly I felt pain… The badge pin part was spiking into my hand.  As soon as the pain was over, I felt strong and proud, and when I put my badge on today, I feel like I am a leader, ready to take on any challenge.  Tu Kaha, stand tall. When you are feeling like a small person, always falling over, don't stay down! Stand tall, ready for the next challenge. Lead people towards success, and don't ...

The Beach & Me

It's not going to be warm. But I'll do it. Maybe. I know I'll just get up to my waist, get out and roll around in warm sand, go back and wash it of, and so on until I get warm enough to stay in. By then maybe we'll be getting out! There's no point, but it's fun.  I only like swimming at the beach if I'm not at the beach. Which makes no sense, but anyway, the point is, I'm not going to enjoy the salty swim.  I shuffle up to the waves of ice and hesitate slightly before stepping forward... It's so warm! This was my opinion of the Frankley beach day. It was really warm, for the beach, but there weren't really any waves.😞

Are You Getting Hungry? My Quick Write Story: LOLLIES!

My shop is a sweet shop. I never get hungry. Inside the shop is sweets in every colour of the rainbow, and a few colours that aren’t. There is also a small ice-cream factory at the back of the store, in which you can create your own flavours! On the side of the shop is a lolly factory that makes every sweet ever in existence. Lemon juice, strawberry sauce and vanilla essence get creamed together into a soft, chewy lolly that has low sugar. Squished blueberries, cream and milk. Raspberries, vanilla ice cream and cinnamon. I love taste testing! From the outside, the shop looks normal: discounts covering every inch of the windows and lots of customers streaming in. But inside the shop, everything seems better. It’s probably the smells of millions, no BILLIONS, of sweets being mixed together, and lifting everyone’s tension. As soon as you walk out of the store, you miss it so much you want to go back in. But then you look at the time, go back home, and dream about my amazing, f...

NZ Quakes

Gabrielle and I have been finding out about past earthquakes that are above six on Richter Scale. Here is some information that we found on THE BIGGEST EARTHQUAKE EVER RECORDED IN NZ: 23 January 1855 in Wairarapa This was the BIGGEST earthquake ever recorded in NZ, at a magnitude of 8.3 this earthquake was at 9.00pm, and only killed 5-9 people. It was 33 km deep.

Jade & Spring The Jewel Scepter

I’m writing a story about twins named Jade and Spring. They live in Kaikoura and then the earthquake hits. The get moved to a fairytale school in Australia. Here is a little bit of the story: We all woke up and everything was normalish. Except half of Kaikoura was damaged or completely munted. All the roads to Kaikoura a blocked, and lots of schools are closed. Spring’s happy, she never gets good grades anyway. A month passes and mum and dad pull us into their room. They say, “You know how the living room ceiling is damaged,” they said. “We don’t have any money to fix it, and we have to fix it, so we are going to have to send you two to a boarding school in Australia” I sighed, Spring swore, and we both headed of to our rooms to start packing. This chapter is written from Jade’s point of view. Spring and Jade take turns at narrating the chapters. The full story is coming soon! ☺

Reading...

Image
I am reading a book called The Templeton Twins Have An Idea. It's by Ellis Weiner. I like this book because the narrator communicates with the reader. Also the narrator is funny. A little bit of the story is this: The Templeton twins BLAH BLAH, VERY SAD, ETCETERA. I recommend this book to both genders, age 8-88,888,888,888,888,888,888,888,888,888… Great b ook!

Carnival Art- Finished

I have finally finished my carnival art! It took a long time and a few hammered thumbs, but I’m finished the nailing and threading. Look at the result! My favourite part about my art is the sequins on the curve of the A. The easiest part about the making was the threading for sure.   What do you think? Comment below.

Symmography Diamond Pattern

Is it curved? Look again. This diamond is made up of four of these: Sooooo, is it curved, or is it straight? Comment your opinion below :-)

Fancy Dress Dance

This is room 9’s dance that we will be performing at the fancy dress. It’s the full dance, so if you want a surprise on the night, DO NOT WATCH!!! The dance looks like it has been choreographed by a professional, but actually most of it was done by the students. In a couple of places everyone is doing a different thing, we got to make that up by ourselves. The song, however, was chosen by a professional dancer, Mrs Ford. That Power has a strong beat, and has a nice chorus as well.

A Snippet Of The Story 'Hunteress'

I'm writing a story called 'Hunteress' and have found a bit that I really like, so I have selected it as a teaser for 'Hunteress'. Who do you think are the main  characters ? This is it: “There are no footprints round here! August will be impossible to track down,” said Lexi. “Lexi, you doof,” said Libby, “Fairies don’t leave footprints, they fly, not walk.” “Oh.” Just when they were about to give up, an arrow came flying towards Emily, she dodged it easily, it was released from its bow over three miles away. Only one person in the land had that gooder aim. August. The full story is coming soon!

Maori Blessing

Mrs Cribb showed us some blessings today. This is the one I liked best:  Blessing  It's a good blessing for anyone and everyone, because it doesn't mention any gods, so any religion can use it.
